Terms of Service

The short version: Books Adapted is free to use. Vote, save what you’ve read and watched, and comment, but be decent, vote once, and don’t copy the catalogue wholesale. We provide the site as it is and may change it at any time. Questions? Email hello@booksadapted.com.

1. Agreement to terms

By using Books Adapted at booksadapted.com (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. The Service is operated by TaterTV LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”).

2. The Service

Books Adapted is a free record of books that became movies and TV series, with a page for each book and its adaptation, where to read and watch them, and what people think of them. It is for personal, non-commercial use.

We check pages by hand, but facts such as dates, runtimes, cast and store links can be incomplete or wrong, and can change. We make no guarantee that the information is accurate or complete.

3. Accounts

Voting and browsing need no account. To save marks and lists or post comments you need one. You must be at least 13. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account. Choose a username that doesn’t impersonate anyone or offend.

4. What you post

Comments you post stay yours. By posting, you give TaterTV LLC a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to show, store and reproduce them on and in connection with the Service. Votes are counted into each page’s results.

Don’t post anything unlawful, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or that infringes someone else’s rights; don’t spam or advertise; and warn before spoiling an ending. We may remove any comment and suspend any account that breaks these rules, at our discretion.

5. Acceptable use

Use the Service lawfully and fairly. You agree not to:

  • vote more than once on a question, or use automation or multiple accounts to sway results
  • copy the catalogue in bulk, or reproduce it to build a competing service, without our written permission (search engines indexing pages in the normal way are welcome)
  • damage, overload or disrupt the Service, or try to get into parts of it or its systems you aren’t meant to
  • use the Service for a commercial purpose without our written consent

6. Intellectual property

The Books Adapted name, logo, design, and the original writing on the Service are the property of TaterTV LLC. Book and movie titles, covers, posters and other artwork belong to their respective owners and are shown to identify the works. Some facts come from open sources credited on our About page, under their own licences.

7. Third-party links

Pages link to stores, streaming services and other sites we don’t control. We are not responsible for their content, accuracy or practices; using them is at your own risk and under their own terms.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don’t promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Votes and comments are the opinions of the people who gave them, not ours.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, TaterTV LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service will not exceed $100.

10. Changes to the Service

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice.

11. Termination

We may restrict or end your access, or delete your account, if we believe you have broken these Terms or are using the Service in a way that could harm TaterTV LLC or other people. You can stop using the Service, and ask us to delete your account, at any time.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Disputes arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the courts of Delaware.

13. Updates to these terms

We may update these Terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. Using the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Affiliate links

Some links to stores are affiliate links: if you buy through one, TaterTV LLC may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never affects which books and adaptations appear or what the pages say. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
