Which books each season covers

Wool takes two seasons, and Shift changes the structure

SeasonBooks adapted
1Roughly the first half of Wool, book 1.
2The rest of Wool, with a closing scene that introduces the history explored next.
3Shift, book 2, reworked to tell the silos’ origins alongside Juliette’s continuing story.
4*The conclusion of the trilogy, whose final book is Dust. The remaining story is being adapted across the final two seasons rather than giving each book a separate season.
A guide, not an exact match: shows move scenes and storylines between books and seasons.

* Season 4 is scheduled to premiere on July 9, 2027. It will be the last season. Seasons 1–3 have been released.

The trilogy’s ending has not yet been shown. The announced final season is intended to complete the adaptation of Wool, Shift, and Dust.

What changed from the book

Shift largely leaves Juliette behind; the series keeps her

Shift changes the focus after Wool, going back to the events that led to the silos. Juliette does not appear until its final page. The series keeps following her while also telling that earlier story.

Yost told Radio Times that he would not set Juliette aside for a season. He discussed the change with Howey, who encouraged him to find a different way to tell it.

A brief connection between Holston and Juliette becomes a larger story

Howey originally published Wool as a short story, without knowing he would continue it. That left him describing some connections between its characters and later arrivals in only a few lines.

The series expands Holston and Juliette’s work together on an investigation. Howey said their shared history takes about two sentences in the book; television let him see them working and talking together over several episodes.
