Margo's Got Money Troubles: Book vs. Series
Apple TV’s 2026 series Margo’s Got Money Troubles adapts Rufi Thorpe’s 2024 novel. Both follow a young single mother whose ex-wrestler father helps her turn storytelling and an unconventional online career into a way to survive.

Which books each season covers
The first season leaves part of the book for later
| Season | Book adapted | How much it covers |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Margo’s Got Money Troubles | Much of the novel, through the custody case, with some material held back. |
| 2* | Unused book material and new stories | The exact coverage has not been announced. |
| A guide, not an exact match: shows move scenes and storylines between books and seasons. | ||
* Season two has been ordered but has not aired.
The book’s romance remains largely unadapted. Anderson said dating could be explored next, without confirming how closely it would follow the novel.

Shyanne is no longer part of the child-protection complaint
In the book, Shyanne and Kenny are both involved in reporting Margo to Child Protective Services. The series makes Kenny act alone, without Shyanne’s knowledge.
Thorpe said the change followed from giving Shyanne more involvement in Margo’s daily life. She knows her daughter’s circumstances too well to make that complaint. The timing changes too: Kenny acts after Jinx’s overdose, while the book’s complaint follows Margo being doxxed.

Margo tells Mark about the pregnancy earlier
The book lets the affair develop further before Margo tells Mark she is pregnant. She writes him a letter after the legal window for an abortion has closed.
The series shortens the affair and makes the conversation happen face-to-face, earlier in the pregnancy. Mark can express his wish for an abortion while Margo is still making her decision.
