Ten-year-old Jojo wants to prove himself a devoted Nazi, encouraged by an imaginary Hitler who supplies the confidence he lacks. After an accident at a youth camp leaves him recuperating at home, he discovers Elsa, a Jewish teenager his mother is hiding. Jojo tries to interrogate her about everything he has been taught to fear, but their conversations make it increasingly difficult to preserve his picture of the enemy.
