Interview with the Vampire: Books vs. Series
Interview with the Vampire is Rolin Jones's 2022 series, adapted from books by Anne Rice. It stars Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid and has run for 3 seasons and 22 episodes on AMC, with a fourth on the way.

Which books each season covers
The first book takes two seasons, then each book gets its own
Seasons one and two together adapt Interview with the Vampire, split down the middle of the book. From season three, each season takes the title of the book it adapts.
| Season | Book |
|---|---|
| 1 | Interview with the Vampire, book one, first half |
| 2 | Interview with the Vampire, book one, second half |
| 3 | The Vampire Lestat, book two, released under that title |
| 4* | The Queen of the Damned, book three, to be released as Queen of the Damned |
| A guide, not an exact match: shows move scenes and storylines between books and seasons. | |
* AMC renewed the series in July 2026, with Hannah Moscovitch taking over from Rolin Jones as showrunner.
The ten later Vampire Chronicles, from The Tale of the Body Thief to Blood Communion, haven't been adapted as seasons. The 1994 movie with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt is a separate adaptation of the first book. Mayfair Witches (2023) and Talamasca: The Secret Order (2025) are separate AMC series set in the same world.
What changed from the book
Changes to Characters
In the book, Louis is the young master of an indigo plantation in Louisiana in 1791. The series makes him a wealthy Black man who runs brothels in Storyville, New Orleans, in 1910. Rolin Jones said the period was as striking to look at as the eighteenth century, without telling a plantation story that nobody wanted to hear now.
The book's Claudia is made a vampire at about five years old. The series makes her fourteen, a change reported to be partly about Louisiana's child labor laws.
The interview is retold fifty years later
In the book, Louis tells his story to a young reporter the book calls only "the boy." The series turns it into a second interview: in 2022, Louis invites the journalist Daniel Molloy to Dubai to revisit the one they recorded in 1973, and Daniel keeps questioning what Louis remembers.
Louis and Lestat's romance is out in the open
Rice's books suggest the love between Louis and Lestat, and the 1994 movie only hinted at it. The series makes it the center of the story. Jones called it a gothic romance and said he wanted to write "a very excitable, aggressive, toxic, beautiful love story."
