One season turns the book's interviews into a documentary

The book presents the band's story as an oral history assembled from interviews. The series keeps interviews with the older characters, then dramatizes the events they remember. Showrunner Scott Neustadter said that format also let the writers build complete scenes from moments the book only mentions.
No second season has been announced; the series was made as a limited series.
What changed from the book
The Six loses a member
Pete Loving, the band's bassist in the book, does not appear in the series. Eddie, his brother in the book, becomes the series' bassist, leaving five musicians before Daisy joins them.
The series instead counts Camila as the sixth person when the band chooses its name. Neustadter said removing Pete gave the existing cast more room, particularly characters such as Simone and Teddy whose stories grow beyond their parts in the book.

Camila's possible affair becomes a story with Eddie
The series gives Camila and Eddie an implied affair. The book hints at a life Camila keeps from Billy, including a long lunch with an old friend, but does not turn that suggestion into the same story with Eddie.
Neustadter said the writers connected those hints with Eddie's feelings for Camila. Executive producer Lauren Neustadter said the change was developed in close consultation with Reid. Camila Morrone initially objected to the choice, then supported it after discussing what Camila wanted for herself outside her marriage and the band.

Daisy Jones is trying to establish herself as a songwriter in Los Angeles when a producer brings her together with Billy Dunne’s band. Their volatile collaboration generates songs neither could create alone, but touring, substance use, and feelings that cross professional boundaries put pressure on Billy’s marriage and the band’s ability to stay together.
