Which books each season covers
Colin's story moves ahead of Benedict's
The books give each sibling a central romance. The series changes their order and starts some stories before the season devoted to them.
| Season | Main book and overlaps |
|---|---|
| 1 | The Duke and I (book 1), Daphne and Simon's story. Also brings forward a revelation from book 4. |
| 2 | The Viscount Who Loved Me (book 2), Anthony and Kate's story. An event from book 5 also moves into this season. |
| 3 | Romancing Mister Bridgerton (book 4), Colin and Penelope's story. Also begins Francesca's story from When He Was Wicked (book 6). |
| 4 | An Offer from a Gentleman (book 3), Benedict and Sophie's story. Continues the earlier part of Francesca's book. |
| 5* | When He Was Wicked (book 6), adapted as Francesca and Michaela's central romance. |
| 6* | Renewed. No source book announced. |
| A guide, not an exact match: shows move scenes and storylines between books and seasons. | |
* Season 5 began filming in the UK in March 2026, with Francesca and Michaela as the leads. Netflix ordered season 6 in May 2025 without naming its lead.
The main romances in To Sir Phillip, with Love (book 5), It's in His Kiss (book 7), and On the Way to the Wedding (book 8) have not been adapted as complete stories. When He Was Wicked has begun across seasons 3 and 4; its central romance is announced for season 5.

Michael Stirling becomes Michaela
Francesca's eventual partner in When He Was Wicked is Michael Stirling. The series changes that character to Michaela, played by Masali Baduza, and makes their romance the lead story of season 5.
Showrunner Jess Brownell has said the change felt natural, and that as a queer woman she identified with Francesca's book. The series set Francesca up as queer from season 3.
